Cape Santa Maria Sandy Cay & Iguana Tour
This tour allows you to observe Bahamian rock iguanas in their natural habitat ̶̶ dry scrub forests and beaches on deserted islands like Sandy Cay. These animals are rare and The Bahamas has more species of them than any other country in the Caribbean. Each of these species is unique to the island that they inhabit, with their colors varying from solid gray to a kaleidoscope of green, orange, red, blue, yellow and pink.
According to a local legend, Sandy Cay has some hidden treasure buried there, so be on the lookout for it while you're beachcombing. And, if you're very lucky, you might even see the ghost of Captain Jack Sparrow!
This activity is not recommended for persons who are physically challenged.
Sandy Cay, surrounded by a large shallow white sand bank, is a sanctuary home for the curly tail iguanas. There are also unspoiled sea gardens to the east.
