This festival is held every year during the Bahamas Labour Day Holiday weekend, at the Rake and Scrape Festival Park near Arthur's Town Airport. It showcases the rhythmic vibe of the island's premier Rake and Scrape music, performed by local and national artists. It also features a Battle of the Rake & Scrape Bands and quadrille dancing. During the festival, guests can partake of “down home” Cat Island cuisine and drinks, purchase locally authentic made Cat Island crafts, art, literature, jewelry, and straw items.
The Rake-N-Scrape Park is open every day of the Festival for an island-style breakfast, beginning at 8:00 a.m. and continuing on to lunch. There will be a variety of daytime activities, such as checkers and domino games... all while listening to good down home rake-n-scrape music. At 7:00 p.m., the park is cleared to make room for the fantastic showcasing of all things rake-n-scrape, with national and local talent competing and performing on stage. The park is a totally enclosed space, with restrooms and picnic tables available for patrons. It is pet friendly as long as the animal is leashed.
