This festival encourages San Salvadorians worldwide to come home and celebrate Discovery Day, which commemorates the first landfall of the great navigator Christopher Columbus, on October 12, 1492. He renamed the Island of Guanahani to San Salvador meaning "Holy Saviour."
The event features cultural performances, gospel concerts, live entertainment by local and visiting artists, and culminates in a regatta with Bahamian sailing sloops.
This event is not suitable for pets, because of the crowd and noise.
There is no fee, except on evenings when there is a concert.
