Built in the 1950s by American Industrialist, Arthur Vining Davis, the CTI Hotel was partially restored in 2015 and 2016 by the One Eleuthera Foundation, a non-profit development foundation, as part of an effort to preserve Eleuthera’s rich historic legacy.
History buffs can enjoy walking around the grounds, imagining what the site was like in the 50s and 60s when the Rock Sound Club was the playground for members of the Rat Pack who partied the night away, dancing till the wee hours of the morning to the sounds of jazz and “swing”. They can still see the remnants of the old Club House, the site of parties for the “who’s who” of the 1950s; the old freezer house that served the house before modern conveniences became readily available; and the Tea Room, once a popular meeting space for visitors and residents alike.
Today, the hotel and grounds evoke a more serene atmosphere, reminiscent of the property’s more genteel past as a plantation home for its owners. Visitors can enjoy the spacious grounds, majestic royal palm trees and flowering hibiscus dotting the landscape. The sense of freedom is palpable, which is only fitting when one recalls that the meaning of the Greek word eleutheria is liberty. It is the sense of freedom that entices not only people to visit, but wildlife too: the rare bird, the Kirtland's Warbler, migrates to the area during the fall/winter season.
The CTI Hotel is the first and only training hotel in The Bahamas and boasts 16 mid-century, bungalow-style spacious and comfortable rooms. The hotel offers well-appointed rooms with two queen beds or one king bed, a refrigerator, coffee maker, complimentary coffee, tea and water, microwave, television, Wi-Fi, a safe and air-conditioning. The rooms have been attractively refurbished by students at the Centre for Training and Innovation (CTI), a non-profit tertiary education institution. Staying at the CTI Hotel means supporting experiential vocational training for students/apprentices.
Approximately five minutes from Rock Sound International Airport and nestled between the communities of Tarpum Bay and Rock Sound, the CTI Hotel is well positioned for walking, running, beachcombing and swimming in the clear, aquamarine waters nearby.
