James Cistern

Community, Village or Town

The name of this settlement, situated between Governor's Harbour and Hatchet Bay, was derived from the freshwater cisterns found there by a man called James during its early years of habitation.

It is a quiet town on the water front and is home to the Eleuthera Bible Training Center and the Bahamas Methodist Habitat. There are seven churches here, the oldest of which is Wesley Methodist Church that is over two hundred years old.

Located nearby is a unique mysterious rock formation that rises approximately 100 feet above the Atlantic Ocean, called "The Cliffs." Also, on its Atlantic side is a fabulous hidden beach that is good for surfing and shelling.
