North-West Andros Expedition

Multi-Location Packaged Experience
Woodcarving in Red Bays by Henry Wallace – Small Hope Bay Lodge

This tour by car will give you an opportunity to meet the residents of this massive island and find out how they live. Your guide will take you on a journey deep into the lives and culture of the people who came to settle on what Androsians call “The Big Yard.”

The expedition is all day and lasts eight hours.

Locally or Family-Owned Business Notes

Small Hope Bay Lodge was opened by dive legend Dick Birch as a Dive Resort in the early days of recreational diving and is now run by his son Jeff Birch. Tradition and legacy is always present at this unpretentious, friendly, family-run resort. Only 21 beachfront cabins assure a family atmosphere, where guests become friends and over time family members.

Sample Itinerary of Experience

This tour leaves from Small Hope Bay Lodge in Central Andros and takes you to the extreme North of Andros and back to the time of pirate and privateers. From Morgan’s Bluff, Captain Henry Morgan attacked the Spanish on their way back to the old world. You will visit his and his crew's cave and climb on the highest cliffs of Andros, where he looked for booty.

With a picnic at Conch Sound Ocean Blue Hole, you regain your strength to visit Evan’s Blue Hole which is surrounded by a lush forest you will enjoy exploring.

Then we will visit Red Bays, the only settlement on the west side of Andros, and meet the descendants of Black Seminole Indians who migrated here from Florida years back. See the indigenous wood- and straw-crafts and how they are made. Discover how sponging is still present and sustaining the lives of many natives there.
