Tarpum Bay

Village or Town
One Eleuthera Foundation

The quaint old settlement of Tarpum Bay is situated between Rock Sound and Savannah Sound. The original name was Glenelg, derived from a former Secretary of State for the Colonies named Glenelg. Its name was later changed to Tarpum Bay because of the Tarpon fish that was often found on its beach.

Original settlers include the Bullards, who came from Savannah Sound, and the Culmers and Careys, who came from Ireland. The town is a favorite locale for artists and its main industry is fishing.
