Located in Gregory Town, which is known to be the "Pineapple Town" of The Bahamas, is a monument that reads thus -" In memory of Senator, the Honorable George Layman Thompson Sr. (1920 - 1983), Justice of the Peace in Gregory Town for 40 years."
In the 1940's, the late George Thompson, along with his brothers, opened a cannery for pineapples and tomatoes. They also produced Pineapple Rum. Jimmy Headbury erected a metal sculpture and flag pole to remember the work of these men and today it has become a symbol of hospitality in the settlement of Gregory Town.
Persons with mobility impairments or in wheelchairs can get around on the grounds easily.
Leashed pets are permitted, but must be controlled.
